Prework: Setup & Getting Started

Before we jump into learning how to chart, there are a few things you need to know (and acquire). In this module, you’ll find out just what you need to get in order before we get started!

Things like…

  • How to choose the best Basal Body Thermometer (BBT) and where to find it.
  • How to set up the Read Your Body App & download your charting template. You’re getting the behind-the-scenes tour.
  • Getting clear and comfortable with what is called the Intention Scale (you don’t want to skip this step.)

 

Week 1: Basal Body Temperature & Cervical Mucus

In this module, you’ll learn just how…well...unreliable all those fancy Daysy devices and algorithms are. Yup, I said it. Your body is telling you everything you need to know; you just need to learn what to do with the information it’s giving you. 

So that’s precisely where we’re going to start: all the what, why, and hows behind your Basal Body Temperature & Cervical Mucus so you can accurately chart your cycle using your body’s natural signals.

 

Week 2: Male & Female Anatomy & Physiology

You’re about to get the sexual education you should have gotten in high school but never did.

In this module, you’ll learn the ins and outs of the male & female internal reproductive organs so you can have a better understanding of how your body works, and how your partner’s anatomy & hormonal cycles affect your cycle.

Pluuusss, we’re going to dive deep into your menstrual cycle so you can see how these cyclical hormonal changes affect your physical, mental, and emotional health each month.

 

Week 3: How to confirm a temperature shift

So you’ve learnt to watch for the signals your body is giving you & how to track them. Now it’s time to learn how to use all that data you’ve gathered to confirm ovulation. And how will we do that?

Using your temperature, of course. Yes, your temperature.

If you’ve been frustratingly Googling, “But, where do I put the coverline?” or “How do I confirm a temperature shift?” this module has the answers you’ve been looking for.

 

Week 4: Evaluating Peak Day

In this module, you’ll learn how to identify when you are at PEAK fertility in your cycle (and why you should care.) 

Hint:  The rules behind Peak Day are key to determining when you’re no longer fertile and safe to go unprotected.

 

Week 5: How to Close the Fertile Window: Confirming Ovulation

There is no denying that when you are first learning to chart your cycle, it can be overwhelming to consider all the factors involved. Thankfully you don’t have to figure it out alone.

In this module, you’re going to learn the ins, outs, and in-betweens of how to mark your chart! Everything from your coverline, temperature shift, to your peak day and fertile window.

Workbooks will make practising easy and our live call will ensure any questions or doubts you have about charting your cycle are answered! 

 

Week 6: Changes to the Cervix

Did you know that the position and texture of your cervix changes during your cycle? Well, now you do.

In this module, you’re going to get close and comfortable with your cervix so you can recognise those changes and use them as an additional sign to predict your most fertile windows.

Plus, how to chart those changes, of course!

 

Week 7: How to Open the Fertile Window: Pre-ovulation Infertile Time

So when exactly are you infertile BEFORE you ovulate? You’re about to find out!

In this module, you’ll learn what Pre-Ovulation is exactly, how to use it to calculate when you’re infertile before you ovulate, and how to keep track of it all in your new favourite app (Read Your Body) so you can feel confident that you are safe to have unprotected sex.

 

Week 8: Alternative Barrier Methods to use when Charting

In this module, you’ll learn about the effectiveness & use of alternative methods.

Yup, you guessed it. We’re going to talk about everything from condoms to the withdrawal method to Plan B.

Why? Because your sexual education doesn’t stop at birth control and reproductive organs. The better you understand all the options available to you, the more empowered you can be in your choices (and in your conversations with your partner.)

 

Week 9: How to detect a hormonal imbalance in your chart

A hormone imbalance can feel like a big and daunting thing to tackle alone. Especially when you aren’t even sure that there is an imbalance to begin with!

That’s why, in this module, you’ll learn how to detect a hormonal imbalance in your chart and get step-by-step guidance on what to do once you do.

If you already know you have a PCOS, Anovulatory, or a low progesterone chart, this module is going to give you the insights into charting your cycle that you’ve been looking for!

 

Week 10: Consolidate Your Learning

Alright, you’ve learned all that you need to know. Now it’s time to make sure that you genuinely understand how to implement all that we’ve covered!

In this module, you’ll learn how to mark a complete chart and how to recognise when your fertile window opens and closes.

Who am I, anyway?

Hey! I’m Jess Dzierbicki

Certified Sympto-Thermal Method Instructor and Fertility Awareness fan girl since 2016.

I teach women how to chart their menstrual cycles as a natural method of contraception so they can quit hormonal birth control for good.

When I first started down the path of FAM, it seemed impossible to find a reliable and consistent source of advice & insights. The information was all over the place, and it felt impossible to find someone to turn to for support.

Eventually, when I managed to decipher the research and realise all the lies I’d been told about my own body, and just how much those synthetic hormones were impacting it… anxiety, depression, lower libido… I was pissed.

I was dumbfounded. I was determined.

Determined to make it MUCH easier for the next woman to educate herself and find support in transitioning to a natural, hormone-free method of birth control.

Now, I spend my days making hilarious (if I do say so myself) reels about menstruation and

teaching women about the physiology of their reproductive system, hormones and cycle.

Questions you’re probably asking yourself right now:

What exactly is the Fertility Awareness Method (FAM)?

The Fertility Awareness Method (or FAM) is the practice of charting your biomarkers such as your temperature and cervical mucus as a form of NATURAL birth control. The biomarkers change during each menstrual cycle and allow you to determine when you are fertile and when you are non-fertile.

 As a method, it is widely studied and, if learned with a FAM instructor (oh hey there), can be up to 99.6% effective. Same as the pill & condoms, WITHOUT all the synthetic hormones.

 

Is FAM expensive? Do I have to buy expensive equipment?

As much as the killer marketing campaigns would try to convince you otherwise, you don’t need the expensive FemTech devices like Natural Cycles or Daysy. Actually, I advise against it. Those devices use an algorithm that determines your fertile window based on your previous cycle data (not good.) 

All you need to ACCURATELY chart your cycle is a $10 basal body thermometer and guidance from a certified Fertility Awareness Instructor.

I was prescribed birth control because I have excruciating periods. Is Charting a good idea for me?

I am not a medical professional, so I cannot advise you on disorders such as endometriosis. HOWEVER, tell me if this seems familiar…

>> You arrived at the doctors’ appointment with a list of symptoms (painful periods, passing large blood clots, irregular cycles, swollen breasts, moodiness, irritability around your period.)

>> You sat down in the chair, the door closed shut, and your doctor asked you, “what can I help you with today?”

>> You started to tell them the long list of symptoms you have been experiencing…

>> They took one look at you and said, “I think birth control is the best option to regulate your cycle,” no follow-up questions, no discussion.

Of course, you agreed, because duh, it’s a doctor, and they are a trusted professional. Right?

You chose between the pill, hormonal IUD, copper IUD, Implanon, or the Depo shot and have been on it ever since.

Hormonal contraception is only a Band-Aid to mask symptoms! Your hormonal birth control has not “cured” your symptoms.

The cure you need is from someone like a Chinese medicine doctor, naturopath or a functional medicine doctor that will run tests to find the root cause of your symptoms – all things we’ll talk about inside the Charting With Confidence group program!

 

Don’t I just have to use an app? Why should I invest in a course on top of that?

When people tell me they rely on their app to tell them when they’re fertile, it makes me want to rage cry. Your app cannot tell you when you’re fertile.

At best, your app GUESSTIMATES, based on an algorithm, when you are fertile and non-fertile. This is known as The Rhythm Method, which is an outdated and unreliable method.

Charting your cycles involves taking your basal body temperature and checking daily for cervical mucus. Depending on the type of cervical mucus you see will tell you when your fertile window opens and closes.

With these two biomarkers, you will be able to confirm you have ovulated and know when your fertile window is closed AND, most importantly, if you are safe to go unprotected.


The real beauty of charting your cycles is discovering loads more information about yourself and your cycle.
